PLEASE NOTE: This course assumes that attendees have a working knowledge of block storage databases or have attended the Hyperion Essbase Overview training course.
Find out about using Essbase in Aggregate Storage mode including how to convert a traditional block storage database to ASO. Developers should consider using aggregate storage mode if a database has the following characteristics:
- It is sparse and has many dimensions, and/or many levels of members.
- It is used primarily for read-only purposes, with few or no data updates.
- The outline contains no formulas except in the dimension tagged as Accounts.
- If calculation of the database is frequent or is based on the summation of data, not relying on calculation scripts.
To write formulas for block storage outlines, Essbase has a set of calculation functions and operators referred to as Calc language. This BSO Calc language cannot be used to write member formulas for aggregate storage databases. Formulas in aggregate storage outlines use the MDX language. Ths course covers everything you will need to know about ASO databases including this MDX query language as well as calculation commmands / functions and automation with MaxL.
